Pigeon Control in the Central Valley

Of all the birds we can successfully remove, our most common calls are about pigeons, and for good reason—they love trespassing in areas where they don’t belong. Pigeons are domesticated birds, meaning they depend upon humans to provide them with food and shelter. They are commonly found around agricultural areas like warehouses and grain elevators as well as in cities around parks, buildings, bridges, and any other structures that have nooks and corners for them to roost.

Pigeons are unsanitary birds known to spread diseases such as cryptococcosis, salmonella, food poisoning, and more. They are notorious for their droppings which can be a slip and fall risk and result in cosmetic damage to structures and statues. Their feces also carry diseases and their presence can bring secondary pests like fleas, ticks, mites, and other insects that use the bird as a host. This makes it imperative to get rid of pigeons in places where there is high traffic.

Reasons you should get professional help to control pigeons and other birds:

  • They can create an unsafe environment for your employees and customers.
  • Their droppings can be expensive to continually clean
  • Their presence can negatively impact your business reputation.

How We Approach Bird Control

The best method to get rid of pigeons and other bird species is a combination of exclusion, traps, and repellants. At Castle Pest Management, we use a variety of methods to ensure birds will no longer be a problem. These options are humane and effective so there is no worry that the birds will be harmed or poisoned.

Traps

Pigeon traps are probably the best way to catch and get rid of pesky pigeons. Through this method, one of our skilled technicians will simply lay out some bait in the trap and pigeons will be lured in through a one-way door. The caught pigeon can be used as a decoy to get other birds to join in and get caught as well.

Exclusion

For exclusion, we have several different options. Bird spikes are made with stainless steel or unbreakable UV-protected polycarbonate and placed in areas where birds commonly roost to make it uncomfortable for them. Alternatively, bird nets take away access to nesting sites, and shock strips give birds a minor jolt to modify their roosting habits. No matter the method, the result is the same—your property is unappealing to bird activity.

Repellent

We can also use non-toxic repellents scattered around areas of activity to act as a food source. Birds who eat the repellent bait will be affected in a way that will cause distress and worry from other pigeons who will then flee the area to avoid suffering the same fate. Some of the effects of the repellent include temporary symptoms of flying erratically, vocalizing, trembling, dilation of the pupils, and other symptoms indicative of loss of motor control.
